From July 13 to July 14, 2023, academic exchange activities between Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Saitama University were held in the School of Civil Engineering at Dalian University of Technology. These academic exchange activities are financially supported by both the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Japanese group representatives from Saitama University, including Associate Professor Ji Dang, Ph.D. students Sanjeev, Aijia Zhang, and M.S. students Jiaming Liu, Fujishima, Inamura, and DUT group members including Associate Professor Fujian Tang, Ph.D. students Jialiang Hu, Guoshuai Zhou, Yihang Kuang, Hao Cui, and M.S. students Jiawei Bai, Jiamin Huang, et al. participated in these academic activities.
On July 13, a joint seminar entitled "Development of Auto-Detection AI for Structure Corrosion Monitoring by Optical Fiber" was organized by Associate Professor Fujian Tang. Ph.D. and Master students from both sides gave presentations. The topics mainly focused on the development of fiber optic corrosion sensors, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, as well as their applications in the field of civil structural health monitoring. This joint seminar not only promotes the development of auto-detection AI for structure corrosion monitoring by optical fiber, but also enhances the friendship between graduate students on both sides.
On July 14, the Japanese group visited the Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory, Seismic Hall Laboratory, Structural Laboratory, and Bridge and Tunnel R&D Base at DUT. Associate Professor Fujian Tang and the lab instructors explained the main function and capacity of many testing facilities to both the professor and graduate students from Saitama University. Both sides exchanged their insights and suggestions, and further anticipated research directions for future cooperation.
