Originated from 1949, Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering started as one of the earliest departments of Dalian University of Technology, and has undergone five stages in its history of development: Department of Civil Engineering (1949-1955), Department of Hydraulic Engineering (1955-1985), Department of Civil Engineering (1985-1996, extended), School of Civil Engineering and Architecture (1996-2002), and School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering (2002-2009). The faculty was officially founded in September, 2009.
Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering is organized into five schools and departments: School of Hydraulic Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Transportation and Logistics, Department of Construction Management and Center of Deepwater Engineering. The faculty has broad-based curriculums underscored by multidisciplinary courses and cross-major enrichment. It now has 2 primary discipline doctoral programs (Hydraulic Engineering and Civil Engineering), 13 subordinate discipline doctoral program and 17 master programs, as well as 8 undergraduate programs and 2 post-doctoral research workstation. More specifically, the faculty owns 1 National Key Discipline of First Class Major (Hydraulic Engineering), 1 National Key Discipline of Second Class Major (Structural Engineering), 2 Provincial Key Discipline of First Class Major (Hydraulic Engineering and Civil Engineering). Research Platforms of Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering comprises 1 State Key Laboratory (Coastal and Offshore Engineering), 1 National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory (Bridge and Tunneling Technology National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory), 3 Provincial Key Laboratory (Engineering Disaster Prevention and Reduction, Safety Monitoring and Control of Civil Engineering Infrastructure Laboratory, Liaoning Key laboratory of Water resources and Flooding control), 1 Provincial College Key Laboratory (Hydro Science and Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory), 1 National Experimental Demonstration Center (Civil and Hydraulic Experimental Center), 2 Creative Research Groups of National Natural Science Foundation and 1 Collaborative Innovation Center of Liaoning Province. Hydraulic Engineering and Civil Engineering are both key construction disciplines of Project 211 and Project 985.
As of 2019, the faculty has 286 teaching and administrative staff, of whom 98 are professors and 108 are associate professors. Among current faculty there are 4 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 members of Discipline Assessment Group of State Council Academic Degree Committee, 7 Specially Appointed Professors of Cheung Kong Scholars, 8 National Outstanding Contribution Experts, 12 winners of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 7 winners of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars. Currently, the number of enrolled student is 3141, in which 465 are doctoral students, 953 are master students and 1723 are undergraduate students.
With strong emphasis on faculty team construction as well as original scientific research integrated with education, Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering has cultivated a number of decent students and fellows who win various national and provincial awards and undertake different key fund projects. Taking the opportunity of “First-class University” and “First-class Discipline” construction of Dalian University of Technology, the faculty focuses on continuously innovation and profound research in key research area. In accordance with the faculty’s spirit and social commitment, Faculty of Infrastructure Engineering is striving for constructing a high-level and research-type faculty.
